After 4 weeks of regular season, our team had 2-2 record and only one team out of 8 was undefeated, and that team was Bomb Squad. I had not watched them playing, so I didn't know what to expect.
So, we played them last Sunday. They weren't as good as I expected, but later heard that their 3 best players weren't there. We still lost by 20. We just played really poorly, especially on the defensive end.
They played 2-3 zone defense, which already had caused a lot of headaches for us prior in the season. All You Can Be (yes, that's a team name), and Hi Flyers played 2-3 zone. We got beat badly by All You Can Be and Hi Flyers gave us tough time although we won the game very closely.
As a point guard, I have really hard time playing against 2-3 zone. I literally don't know what to do, because my strength is one-on-one. So, after seeing 2 teams that play 2-3 zone, I searched YouTube and found some videos that teach plays against 2-3 zone. And I shared 2 videos with our team and asked to study one of the two thoroughly. I was excited to try it out (never had chance to practice it together), and it turned out some of us didn't study the video.
Here are the videos I studied:
Surprisingly, we were up 2 points after the 1st half. But it got ugly as soon as the 2nd half started. For me, I played only about 5 min into the 2nd half, because I had a cramp in right triceps, which is totally unheard of. I was stretching my triceps on the bench for the rest of the game and shot video of the game (below):
Obviously, our defense needs a total make-over. Maybe it was because we were already down 20 points , but there still were more than 7 min remaining. Points difference can't be our excuse of bad defense.
Oh, by the way, I discovered why I got the cramp the next day at work. Before the game, I exercised my right arm with 6 lbs medicine ball (shooting motion as if the medicine ball was the basketball) just to be able to get more strength on my shooting arm, which I often did before the game, but this week, I got there too early and did it just a little too much.
So our record is 2-3 now. And we need to break that 2-3 zone. I hate all the 2-3s....
